Cliffs of Moher 2040 Masterplan

A sustainable return to the wild

With over 1.5 million visitors per year, the Cliffs of Moher is one of Ireland’s favourite visitor experiences. Leading a multidisciplinary consulting team, we undertook an expansive placemaking and masterplanning project to establish a long-term strategy that will reimagine the visitor offer and identity of this iconic destination over the next twenty years.

Towering over the west Clare coast and stretching for nearly 8 kilometres, the cliffs were formed over 360 million years ago. Today, they are part of The Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark.

Collaborative workshops with a variety of stakeholders and project partners helped to bring the strategy for Cliffs of Moher into focus. Open dialogue and creative exploration cultivated a unified concept that supports the site’s key strengths: an iconic locale, connection to an evolving natural landscape, and an open and welcoming experience.

The visitor experience prioritises exhilarating encounters with the cliffs and immersion in their untamed nature through a network of safe graded walks and ‘over the edge’ viewing points. Expanded signage, audio-visual displays and targeted event packages will allow visitors to ‘read’ the clues hidden within each layer of ancient rock, while connecting them emotionally with the landscape’s rich cultural legacy.

Sustainability is at the heart of the cliffs’ masterplan; from interpretive content focusing on the site’s vulnerable habitats and their rehabilitation, to new off-site transport hubs alleviating pressure on existing parking facilities, to a revitalised F&B and retail offer promoting seasonal local produce. The comprehensive strategy sees a transformed offer unfold across a rewilded landscape, which significantly enhances the biodiversity value while achieving tangible benefits for local communities.

“This exciting blueprint delivers for local communities, the environment, and visitors to Clare.”

Watford Heritage Hub

Reimagining and revitalising a community hub

Watford’s new museum in the Town Hall will provide a fresh, accessible experience to showcase the town’s diverse and rich heritage. As part of the ongoing transformation, we led early consultancy services, bid writing, and interpretive design services from initial feasibility through to delivery of a successful Heritage Fund bid.

Watford Museum’s collections relate to the town and Borough of Watford from prehistoric times to the present day. The new museum will showcase more of the collection whilst letting locals share their lived experiences in the town.

Creative consultation with the local community, schools, organizations, and stakeholders has shaped the design and content of the exhibitions and supported activity proposal development, ensuring an inclusive offer that meets audience needs.

Innovative thinking and visioning drove financial and organisational planning from the start. Working collaboratively with the client team, the site was designed to maximise revenue potential to support long-term sustainability.

Ice Age Fossils State Park

A paleontological and historical trove

As part of state’s “Explore Your Nevada Initiative”, Haley Sharpe was invited to create a masterplan and vision for the new 315-acre Ice Age Fossils State Park in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Now open to the public, the park features an interpretive visitor centre and walking trails that immerse visitors of all ages and abilities in the landscape and story of the Ice Age.

Less than 20 minutes from the Las Vegas strip, Ice Age Fossils State Park showcases visible fragments of the prehistoric past. Visitors can walk the trails amid the desert landscape, see paleontologists in action, and get a close-up view of the largest collection of Pleistocene fossils in the Southwest.

As a new park, the visioning process started from scratch. Collaborating with the Parks Department and local subject matter experts, we workshopped ideas to imagine what the site could be. It quickly became clear that the team needed to dream big.Creating the Vision Document allowed for parallel strategic and interpretive planning, and concept design. Combining these processes, we created a holistic plan that addressed immediate and longer-term goals. The approach allowed for an easy transition through future phases – exhibit design, media development, and trail development.

Experience

We transform stories into meaningful experiences.

Experiences that put the story first, with compelling narratives expressed in dynamic ways, have the power to move people – to learn, change, connect, and make memories.

The Grand Egyptian Museum, Main Galleries

A new monument to ancient Egypt

Haley Sharpe created the artefact-led journey for Phase II of the Grand Egyptian Museum, providing interpretive planning and exhibition design for this monumental and globally significant project. Now open to the world, GEM will be enjoyed by millions of visitors every year.

Located in Giza, Egypt, GEM provides a stunning setting for the world’s largest archaeological displays. The 24,000 square meters of the museum include permanent exhibition galleries, a children’s museum, and a large conservation centre.

With over 40,000 diverse artefacts on display, the scale of GEM is unique. A considered design approach, and a fully integrated interpretive wayfinding strategy offer innovative solutions ensuring the best possible visitor experience.

Linking multi-sensory and immersive environments – Caves and Digital Streams – bring specific artefacts and collections to life. The larger-than-life media experiences create a dynamic pace and mood for visitors, enveloping them in a rich historical story.

The Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum, West Wing Galleries

Reimagining an icon of the National Mall

As lead interpretive designers for the National Air and Space Museum’s ‘West Wing’ galleries, we worked with the Smithsonian team to craft larger-than-life experiences exhibiting momentous stories on everything from early flight to the moon landing.

Located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., the National Air and Space Museum, which preserves, and displays the world’s largest collection of aviation and space artefacts, is one of the most popular museums in the world.

Working with Smithsonian project leaders, curators, learning and collections teams, we undertook exhibition and interpretive, media, and technical design to create environments that provide audiences with unique and transformative experiences.

In the transformed West Wing galleries, the museum’s stunning collections are now accompanied by a dynamic mix of immersive media, illustrating our quest to shape and understand the world around us.

Niagara Falls State Park and Welcome Center

A co-created experience at the iconic Niagara Falls

Leading a dynamic team of project partners and co-creators, Haley Sharpe is delivering a renewed experience at Niagara Falls State Park, the oldest state park in the United States. Once complete, a new 29,000 square-foot welcome centre with co-created exhibits and landscape interpretation will transform the gateway to the falls.

For thousands of years, Niagara Falls has been home to the Tuscarora and Seneca Nations, and later, a destination for explorers, honeymooners, and even daredevils. Beyond great beauty and remarkable power, the enduring significance of the falls is rooted in legacies of conservation, the Underground Railroad, and the continued stewardship of Indigenous communities.

From early architectural planning to detailed design and delivery of the project, we have worked closely with diverse community partners and knowledge keepers through a co-creative process to reimagine and reorient the visitor experience at the park.

Together, we have imagined, created, and will realize a holistic experience that not only emphasizes and connects visitors to the amazing falls landscape but also reveals the complex stories that surround and define this spectacular world wonder.

“The co-creation process with Indigenous Communities has helped to strengthen the relationship between the institution and local residents, providing a sense of ownership and shaping the design and experience.”

Placemaking

We bring places into focus.

We create places that everyone can enjoy. Through branding, wayfinding, and visioning we capture authentic stories and respond to people’s needs to make environments that are meaningful and memorable.

Oman Botanic Garden

The largest botanic garden in the Arabian Peninsula

Covering 420 hectares, the prestigious Oman Botanic Garden showcases the incredible plant diversity of Oman through vast indoor and outdoor habitats and integrated layers of graphic, interactive and digital media.  We have led the visioning and delivery of all interpretive elements in the masterplan and have developed a truly unique visual identity for this world-class visitor attraction.

Oman Botanic Garden will be a haven for Oman’s varied plant life, from the lush forests of Dhofar to the cool mountain terraces of the Hajar. This is the first garden of its kind to display the entire flora of a region, much of which cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

We worked closely with the botany team to transform complex scientific content into an inspiring vision. This centred on fostering a deep appreciation of the plants, landscapes, and cultural traditions of Oman. Interpretive media spread across the garden includes interactive exhibit displays, wayfinding and incidental graphics, tours and activities, and a bespoke digital app.

For the site’s visual communication, we distilled the essence of Oman into a distinctive brand identity for the destination, utilising tailor-made typefaces, adaptable and harmonious colour palettes, and a blend of organic textures inspired by the beautiful landscapes.

Our knowledge and passion for the project means we have remained trusted interpretive advisors into the construction phase. It has been a privilege to work with an international team of filmmakers, photographers, artworkers, game designers, app developers and fit-out specialists ensuring that the experience becomes the very best it can be.

“The Oman Botanic Garden is more than just a project; it’s a source of pride for the people of Oman and will be a destination for all visitors for generations to come.”

40 Historic Islamic Sites

Enriching visits to Saudi Arabia’s Holy Cities

This ambitious project to establish world-class visitor experiences at 40 historic sites across Madinah and Makkah is central to the Saudi 2030 Vision to preserve and showcase the country’s rich cultural heritage. Crafting a distinct masterplan vision and placemaking strategy for each destination, we developed creative approaches to storytelling, branding, and digital integration to create welcoming and thoughtful spaces for people to enjoy.

The heritage sites range from historic wells to sacred mosques and mountains, to military forts and expansive battlefields. Many have a direct connection to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and are thus central to the story of Islam’s early development in Saudi Arabia, and deeply meaningful to millions of people worldwide.

Through site visits and collaboration with historic experts at the Islamic University of Madinah, we immersed ourselves in the unique stories and spiritual qualities of each site. The resulting interpretive masterplans prioritise visitors’ connection to the life of the Prophet (PBUH) while encouraging immersion in the natural and cultural heritage around them.

Expressed through a suite of signage, the contemporary elegance of our design language provides a cohesive brand identity for all sites, subtly referencing cultural characteristics of Islamic civilization. Signage will combine with essential visitor amenities and vibrant public art installations to create 40 distinctive, multi-layered experiences.

As content and design guardians for the project, we are working with technology partners to deliver our vision for a bespoke digital companion. The app will support and enhance each visit through intuitive site navigation, layered storytelling, and astonishing augmented reality experiences
